2017 NCUSA COMMANDANT’S HOLIDAY MESSAGE
It's hard to believe that 2017 is coming to a close.
To start things off I want thank my 2017-2018 National Staff for supporting me during these past several months. I want to welcome two of our newest members to NCUSA National Staff. PNC David Myers; Navy Club of USS OHIO Ship #726; Two Year Trustee and Brian Spangler; Navy Club of Lake Ontario Ship #1812 our new National Membership Database Officer. I proudly appointed both and they were recently approved by National Staff.
A special thank you goes out to PNC David Myers and Ship #726 for hosting September 9, 2017 National Staff Meeting in Van Wert, OH. The club was well represented and their hospitality greatly appreciated!
As always, I’m a firm believer in communicating and increasing our membership. There is a lot of talent amongst us. Therefore; I expect for all of to use these talents to the best of our capabilities including me. I cannot do this alone therefore;I need your support as well.
PNC Russ Alsteen; Navy Club of Green Bay, Ship #18, Two Year Trustee National Staff recently passed away. He was truly a gentleman, brilliant shipmate and mentored a lot of our club members over the years including myself. I was glad to have served with Russ and he was a pleasure to have had on our staff. A very special thank you goes out PNC/JAG Archie Gainey, PNC/PSC Auxiliary Judy Gainey and Darryl Driscoll, WI Squadron Commander, Fond du Lac Ship #75 for being in attendance at his funeral in my absence. Our next National Staff Meeting and Recruiter of the Year Luncheon will be in Washington, DC. And the dates are January 24 and 25, 2018 respectively. Then on April 12, 13, 2018 respectively will be our Great Lakes Day, Great Lakes, IL. For those who have not been attendance to observe the Passing and Reviewing Graduation from the dais, you are in for aextraordinary event. And our last NCUSA National Convention for 2017-2018 for this cruise will be on June 14, 15and 16, 2018 in Pottsville, PA hosted by Ship #1491. Additional information will be forthcoming.
In closing, I want to wish everybody and their families a Happy Thanksgiving Day, Merry Christmas and Happy 2018 New Year! I'm really excited about 2018 because, I think this great organization is truly headed north!

Shipmates and family members, Welcome! I am much honored, and it gives me great pleasure being your NCUSA NATIONAL COMMANDANT for the 2017- 2018 cruise.
I’m very proud of this organization since it was established on June 18, 1938 in Quincy, IL. For those who were in attendance for the 2017 NCUSA National Convention in Gettysburg, PA fun was had by all. A special thank you goes out to Chairperson PA Squadron Commander Charles Mills Ship #589 and Shipswriter Shirley Dawson for making this event a special occasion.
As Commandant I want to emphasize to all NCUSA members and Auxiliary that communication is “A” priority to me. I want to know what’s going on. Let’s promote NCUSA to get the word out on retention and recruiting new members and their families via “Hit the Deck” brochures, word of mouth and social media.

Burke, Washington, DC Chief of Naval Personnel participated in the Recruit Training Command Graduation Ceremony on Friday, December 16, 2016. Picture was taken after Commandant Mills passed out the Military Excellence Award gift following recruit graduation. There were nearly 1,000 recruits who graduated in 13 Companies.

2017 New Year’s Message
Happy 2017 New Year!
I hope all of you had a wonderful and eventful Holiday Season –
To start things off I want to say thank you all very much for giving me the support to run Navy Club USA in 2016 without a hitch. I know that 2017 will be challenging and even more rewarding as NCUSA moves forward.
There’s a lot of improvement that took place within NCUSA last year but without your participation this could have not taken place. We’re a TEAM!
A couple of events that will be forthcoming are the Recruiter of the Year Luncheon in Washington, DC, on February 1, 2, 2017, Great Lakes Recruit Graduation on April 21, 2017 and NCUSA National Convention in Gettysburg, PA on June 15,16, 17, 2017. If you are unable to attend these functions, but would like to hear the proceedings, you may listen by telephone conference: Dial–in-Number is 1-712-432-3082 and the Conference Code: 329138 followed by the # sign and it’s free!
Membership for 2017 still needs work. I know that without your hard work and support NCUSA would be DIW - Keep plugging away!

Tis the Season to be Jolly!!!!
Christmas season is a joyful and busy time of the year. I know that we’re all out and about purchasing and wrapping gifts, attending Christmas musical programs, and enjoying parties and family gatherings. But this is the time of year that we should look back and reflect on what we’ve accomplished this past year and be thankful. It’s hard to believe that the year 2016 is coming to a close. I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! A lot of great events have taken place with NCUSA this past year and you should be proud of yourselves to have made this happen. This includes the commissioning of Navy Club USS Julius A. Furer Ship #6 in North Carolina, the appearance of Navy Club of Lancaster County (PA) Ship #166 in the Veterans Day Parade in New York City, and Navy Club of Tyrone, PA Ship #589 is in the process of starting up an Auxiliary. Your efforts do not go unnoticed!
Here are some recent accomplishments of your Shipmates:
* Illinois Navy Club of Sangamon Ship #32 hosted a Navy’s Birthday Party which had Ham & Beans on Oct 13.
* Illinois Navy Club of Sangamon Ship #32 Participated in the “Honor Flight” at Springfield Capitol Airport on Oct 25.
* Illinois Squadron sent representatives to the commissioning ceremony of the USS Illinois (SSN-786) in Groton Connecticut.
* Wisconsin Kenosha Ship 40 provided 125 veteran "holiday goodie bags" to nursing home Kenosha Veterans during Dec.
* Wisconsin Kenosha Ship 40 sponsored the annual Kenosha Pearl Harbor Rememberance day at Kenosha Navy Park.
