In Honor of Our Departed Shipmate

Daniel Ray Roadruck

Daniel Ray Roadruck, 84, a lifelong Lafayette, IN resident, died on Monday, March 8, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital, Lafayette from heart failure.

Born Jan. 29, 1926, in Battle Ground, he was the son of the late Donald Ray Roadruck Sr. and Gladys Roadruck-McConaughay. His stepfather was Edgar McConaughay.

He graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the Navy during World War II.

On April 18, 1948, he married Rosalie M. Edwards in Lafayette, and she survives.

Mr. Roadruck retired after 40 years at Vulcan Materials as vice president of operations. After retiring, he was a consultant from 1991 to 2005.

He was an active member of Navy Club Ship 12. He served as National Commander with the Navy Club, was Past Squadron Commander of the Indiana Squadron of the Navy Club and past Commander of Navy Club Ship 12. He was the National and Indiana Squadron Finance Chairman..

He also volunteered as a mentor to young service men and women.

In 2008, he was presented the Distinguished Hoosier Award by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman at the National Navy Club Convention, which recognized his ongoing service to the community, state and country.

Surviving with his wife are three sons, Steven Roadruck (wife: Christina) of Miami, Fla., Bruce Roadruck (wife: Donna) and Donald Roadruck (fiancée: Trudy Ludwig), both of Lafayette; two daughters, Linda Bruinsma (husband: Doug) of Auburn and Jean Slopsema (husband: Tim) of Noblesville; and two stepsisters, Vera Bougher and Roberta Griffith.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Kelli, Stacey, Justin, Kara, Katie, Josh and Seth; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Roadruck; a half brother, Don McConaughay; and a grandson, Jess R. Bruinsma.

Dan was a loving husband and father, and was very proud of each of his children. His wife was the love of his life. He was always thinking of everyone before himself. Dan will always be in his family's hearts for eternity.

Services for Dan were held on March 12, 2010 with burial at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens in Lafayette.
